6/10/17: October Newsletter

2018 sees Skegness Raceway hosting a throwback to Yesteryear with an Unlimited Banger team Reunion on Sunday 17th June. We have thought about running a similar meeting for the last couple of years but the emphasis was very much on one particular team reuniting and, for one reason or another, hasn’t quite materialised. For 2018 the meeting will definitely go ahead with Promoter Rob Speak making it an ‘Open House’ for any of the teams from years gone by to come out to play along with those from today’s generation.
Back in the day, many of the top teams from around the country used to pay regular visits to Skegness, quite often to take part in team events that were often staged. 10-20 years ago, household team names in the banger racing world such as Steam Team, Damage inc, Team Black, Predators, Essex Barn, Blooz Boys, Flying Squad, Condoms, Stinkbridge, Suicide Squad and the Bears were all found racing at Skeggy. Many of those just mentioned, or at least some members of those teams are still active today, some more than others we grant you. Our aim is to try and encourage as many of these types of teams along as we can and also welcome along anyone of the ‘current crop’ of drivers for a get together that would provide superb action, guaranteed.
In keeping with those good old days we aim to recreate, the cars will be of the PRE 85 Spec, with the likes of Granada’s, Jags, and Volvos etc. These were very much the mainstay of the unlimited scene in that era. Already some PR work has taken place by Rob Speak and members of his staff, who have been in contact with drivers from some of the teams mentioned above and those spoken to have given the car spec their approval and said “We Will Be There”. It will be teams of 4 drivers and details on Engine Specs and the substantial prize fund (aimed at both racers and crashers) will be confirmed soon.
So make that a date for 2018, Skegness raceway, Sunday 17th June, Unlimited PRE 85 bangers racing in a 4 a side team championship.

4/10/17 BriSCA F1

2017 has seen a considerable amount of change within BriSCA Formula 1 which was always inevitable in particular with track closures and other issues that arise during the normal course of a season. 2017 has in some ways created a 'perfect storm' after quite a buoyant and lengthy period of stability. We now need to get a grip TOGETHER to ensure we become stronger and healthier in 2018.

We also need to 'move' the agenda particularly social media wise into positive territory and as far as 2018 and onwards are concerned, we are all only interested in moving the sport forwards. That should start now, wipe the slate clean.

After a difficult few weeks, Deane Wood and myself have jointly agreed to participate in a forum with 3 nominated 'fans' - the medium as has yet to be determined, perhaps one of the 'online' podcast broadcasts may well be an option. We may also include and invite the BSCDA Chairman who can answer driver related questions. Let's get things in the open in a positive manner.

We are prepared for a 60 -90 minute maximum 'open and constructive debate' to answer as honestly as possible many of the questions fans and drivers may or always wanted to ask and, where possible every effort will be made for honest answers and more importantly share 'ideas' openly which may well have merit to incorporate in a master plan, or indeed answer why an individual idea may well be impractical.

This currently is an 'embryonic' idea which needs more meat on the bone, I would be suggesting Stoxnet may nominate 3 sensible people to represent fans and collate from others questions and more importantly suggestions.
The timing of this would possible be end of October to undertake it properly and Deane is also out of the country for a period next month, but it doesn't want rushing.

We are honest in our intent because we all recognise the future of BriSCA F1 is important and more than ever we need drivers, promoters and fans equally and to be engaged and to assist in ideas into 'Project 2018' putting the 'smile' back into BriSCA F1. Social media has hurt the sport this year in many ways, some understandable disappointment, some frustration, and much passion but far too much unfounded negative rhetoric.
We will not be able to agree on anything however we want to end 2017 on a positive note with a 'fresh' view on 2018 and beyond. The draft 2017 fixtures have been announced, as is usual, the final and confirmed list comes in December and with ideas already taken on board, some of these may well reflect in the final version in terms of ideas.

We have all suffered a drip, drip of depression which has engulfed us this year and overshadowed actually the core values which remain strong. This is a genuine initiative for us all to embrace and draw a line and move on - and dispel the many rumours circulating.

Let's see where this runs,

Over to you

Steve Rees BriSCA Chairman, Deane Wood, Anthony Flanagan BSCDA Chairman

Fuel Non return valves were included as an ORCi requirement in Oval Race formulae some time ago.

In 2016 there was a high profile case involving a Non return valve not being fitted in a particular formula that was dealt with somewhat leniently at the time given some more general issues with regards their fitting and scrutineering with the anticipation that this would be an example to raise the awareness to all drivers that a fully operational/working Non return valve MUST be fitted.

In recent weeks various investigations have revealed that drivers continue to abuse the rule from taking cars to scrutineering and then removing them or fitted and tampered with.

From the 1st May 2017 drivers are now warned that contravention of this rule WILL result in an automatic mandatory ban under the technical rules/ penalties of 6 months. This applies to any driver not having a fully working non return valve fitted and/or it being tampered with in any way.

Issued ORCi 6h April 2017
